COOLANGATTA/QLD (23rd December, 2011): Stand-up paddle (SUP) enthusiasts of all experience will have a chance to learn from one of the world’s best at the inaugural Surfing Australia Jamie Mitchell SUP camp in 2012.
To be held on March 24-25, camp participants will spend two days surfing, paddling and learning with the 10-time Molokai champion and former Battle of the Paddle winner plus several other expert coaches at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) at Casuarina in northern NSW.
Jamie will provide coaching across all SUP disciplines including surfing and racing, along with video analysis plus each participant will also receive a DVD of the camp.
“People have seen the surfing camps with guys like Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore and Joel Parkinson so to have something like SUP at the HPC is definitely a step in the right direction for the sport and shows Surfing Australia’s commitment,” Jamie said.
“With my experience hopefully I’ll be able to help with technique, race tactics for short and long distance and the mental side of things and also with surfing aspects. I’m sure I’ll learn a few things from everyone as well.
“Plus I’ll bring in a couple of guys who are known for their SUP surfing so it’ll be good to have a bunch of people with different ideas to bounce around.”
Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark said the camp was part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to SUP.
“We are thrilled to have someone of Jamie’s calibre hosting our first SUP Camp,” Stark said.
“SUP continues to grow rapidly and the camp is part of our commitment to the sport which now also includes the Surfing Australia SUP series to be held throughout the country starting in February and culminating in the national titles at Port Macquarie in August.”
The HPC is based at Casuarina Beach, just 15 minutes south of the Gold Coast. For bookings and further information please contact HPC manager James Eggington on (02) 6674 9868 or email james@surfingaustralia.com |
